of correction would give me the best vision. My answers would then determine the prescription for
new glasses, allowing me to see God’s world with greater clarity. Over time and as our eyes get
older, we start to notice the scratches on our lenses, from mistakes made while wearing them, as it
becomes harder and harder to keep things in focus. Over time, we do the same thing in life. The
hard part is focusing on what God wants us to see rather than on what we are accustomed to
seeing. Long range planning requires vision, and that includes a new vision for things we have never
looked at before!
looked at before!

I am reminded of God’s vision for us when I look at Acts chapter 11. In chapter 11 we see the
church acting on the vision God gave them through an older set of lenses. The Christians are
witnessing to the lost, there is a reaction from the support church in Jerusalem, Barnabus and Paul
are teaching new converts, and those new converts are responding to the needs of the Christians in
Judea. The Jewish Christians, fleeing to Antioch to escape persecution in Jerusalem, were being
confronted with many changes. Having shared the Gospel with Jews only, there were now thousands
of Gentiles in Antioch waiting to hear about Jesus Christ! They were used to always going to the
synagogue to preach their message, the old vision. Now the marketplace was their pulpit as God
gave them His new vision! They were used to only receiving Jewish believers into the church…that
was the old vision. Now with God’s vision there were Gentile converts waiting to be baptized and
included in the membership of the congregation.
God is using His Holy Spirit to show us some different lenses through which we will be asked to
look, as we seek to minister to a constantly changing world. Change is hard. Better one…two…or
about the same?
